Workshops with Karen Jones Meadows

DRAMA AS A HEALING ART
This interactive workshop is designed for all ages and backgrounds, and becomes thematically group specific.  Through fun explorations of individual and collective beliefs, participants bring to light the dramas in their lives and life in general.  Using spontaneous performance, visual art, movement, music, and meditation techniques, participants design solutions and skills for coping and/or change.

PEACE, PODS, AND PEARLS
This workshop begins with individuals defining their concept of peace as needed within themselves, in their personal interactive world, and throughout the world family.  Each person explores how they can fulfill the vision for their own well-being, and the collective global society.  Literally planting seeds now to create beauty in the future, and using seed pearls as reminders of our individual abilities and responsibilities to continually create peace, is the emphasis of this exhilarating, transforming and fun workshop.  Appropriate for all ages.

WRITE THROUGH THE SOUL
Write Through The Soul is a workshop designed to help people access their creative spark, identify with it, commit to it, and express their vision through the written word.  The completion of a great poem or beginning of a novel is one benefit, however, learning to identify personal values, multiple ways to express them, and the joy of self expression are the most important aspects of the experience.  Participants learn to take their visions and thoughts and translate them into writing that supports freedom for the author's and audience's soul.

TELLING OUR STORY
A permanent written and visual mural on wood is collectively created using a group-selected theme that reflects personal stories.  No formal writing or visual art experience is required.  A variety of art/messy materials are used, thus a smock or old shirt is recommended.  This workshop is for all ages.

These workshops are flexibly designed and can be tailored to meet the needs of adults, children, families, family reunions, corporations, small businesses, civic, social, professional and arts organizations, schools, churches, correctional facilities, festivals, etc.

Drama as a Healing Art Workshop

"Karen Jones Meadows has a unique ability to create a safe and holding environment working within the group dynamic in a short time that is gentle yet powerful and energizing.  She creates trust and takes people into their inner world without them even knowing because it is so safe.  I went where I hadn't gone before by simply playing--my mind was at rest.  I was surprised that I was jolted out of my old space and reached a new truth that day about what I really want for myself at my core.  This workshop is a gift."

"It was fabulous, fun, engaging, and interactive for all participants regardless of age.  The concepts were focused and seemed effortlessly conveyed so that youths, parents and community leaders easily understood and incorporated not only the concepts, but skills they can actually utilize in their lives outside of the workshop perimeter.  I'll be using some of the activities for a statewide workshop I'm conducting on diversity and racism."

Each workshop is unique and tailored to meet the desires and needs of the participants.  Workshops include group and individual activities that explore spiritual, mental, emotional and physical states of consciousness and how they are expressed behaviorally and impact lives.  Some topics include; relationship with self and others; personal care; life stages; inner and outer roles and harmony; stereotypes and realities; economics; dating, sexuality; all forms of addiction and abuse; conflict resolution; time, recreation, career choices; inner and outer guides; culture; creating viable traditions; self and world images; self wisdom; freedom; personal creativity in all arenas; and balanced living.

All workshops result in self-empowerment using combinations of techniques such as contemplation, written and oral language, movement, and visual art.  Some processes include storytelling, improvisations, creative writing in all forms (poetry, plays, mini films, and stories), creating rituals, credo diaries, treasure hunts, visual journals, and safe space expression.

"It was a great workshop.  I didn't want it to end.  It captured everyone's attention and brought out the best in us.  The presentation was informative and very well delivered.  We got to do great critical thinking and hands on activities.  A lot of time people back away from [it] but they weren't afraid to participate, they really opened up.  You were great!"
